How does the social parasite Psithyrus vestalis take over dominance in host colonies of Bombus terrestris?

, : How does the social parasite Psithyrus vestalis take over dominance in host colonies of Bombus terrestris?. Mitteilungen der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur allgemeine und angewandte Entomologie 14(1-6): 203-206

A study was conducted to investigate the invasive behaviour of P. vestalis in B. terrestris nests. B. terrestris queens and P. vestalis females which were either caught in the wild or reared in the laboratory were used. Invasion was artificially triggered by connecting a rearing box with a P. vestalis female to a box containing the host colony. At the beginning of invasion, P. vestalis females became aggressive only when they were attacked by the host queen or workers.
