Radiation-induced pod and seed mutants in faba bean (Vicia faba L.)

, : Radiation-induced pod and seed mutants in faba bean (Vicia faba L.). Indian Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding 64(2): 155-156

Faba bean seeds were subjected to gamma irradiation at 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 kR, and mutants were isolated from resulting M1, M2 and M3 generations. One mutant plant with exceptionally big pods and seeds was isolated from the M2 generation obtained from seeds irradiated at 5 kR. The mutant showed a remarkable increase in mean pod length (4.9 cm) and girth (3.9 cm) in the M2 and M3 generations over the control (2.8 and 2.0 cm, respectively).
