1st experience with intermittent mandatory ventilation in infants following cardio surgery

, : 1st experience with intermittent mandatory ventilation in infants following cardio surgery. Anesteziologiya i Reanimatologiya (1): 25-28

In 20 children aged 7-36 mo. operated for congenital heart defects under artificial circulation, intermittent mandatory ventilation (IMV) was employed in the postoperative period to tide them over from artificial ventilation of the lungs to independent breathing. IMV was accompanied by increased P[partial pressure]CO2 in the arterial blood [a] to 35-39 mm Hg. Later in the process of tiding over to spontaneous respiration and after extubation, PaCO2 remained at normal values figures.
