A case of cushing's syndrome which developed serious ocular complications

, : A case of cushing's syndrome which developed serious ocular complications. Folia Ophthalmologica Japonica 39(2): 296-302

We describe the case of a 30-year-old woman with Cushing's syndrome who developed serious ocular complications. She complained of gradual visual loss in both eyes after resection of an adrenal tumor. Ophthalmoscopic examination revealed central retinal vein occlusion and proliferative retinopathy. It seems that the following three factors affected the prognosis in this case: 1. Poor blood sugar control of long duration. 2. Remarkable change in blood sugar evaluation after adrenal tumor resection. 3. Extended retinal hypoxia owing to central retinal vein occlusion. We conclude that management of genreal conditions in Cushing's syndrome is extremely important in the prevention of ocular complications.
