Age specific changes in mesophyll cells in deciduous and evergreen plants

, : Age specific changes in mesophyll cells in deciduous and evergreen plants. Tsitologiya 19(1): 15-20

Changes in aging mesophyll cells of deciduous and evergreen plants were studied by biochemical, physiological and cytomorphometrical methods. Chlorophyll and the total protein content, photosynthesis and respiration, the amount of ribosomes and development of membrane system of the cells in relation to leaf age were investigated. A correlation between the structural and biochemical changes was found. The functional changes are less reliable characters of cell development. The pattern of aging of mesophyll cells in deciduous and evergreen plants is identical, but there is a difference in the rate of senescence.
