Alveolar bone resorption and elevated serum lipid levels in athero sclerosis

, : Alveolar bone resorption and elevated serum lipid levels in athero sclerosis. Armed Forces Medical Journal (Arab Republic of Egypt) 21(2): 45-58

The serum levels of the various lipids and lipoprotein fractions were estimated in 20 atherosclerotic patients and 20 systemically healthy subjects, all suffering from periodontal disease, to explore a possible correlation between the severity of alveolar resorption and the severity of atherosclerosis. The ages in both groups ranged from 45-63 yr. No significant correlation was evident between the alveolar bone heights of the control (healthy) group and their serum lipid levels; a significant correlation was found between the severity of alveolar bone resorption and the severity of atherosclerosis in the test group.
