An intertidal mollusk assemblage of a rocky coast at ponta de itaipu rio de janeiro state brazil

, : An intertidal mollusk assemblage of a rocky coast at ponta de itaipu rio de janeiro state brazil. Revista Brasileira de Biologia 48(1): 51-58

The goal of this study was to verify whether the different combinations of exposure, abrasion and type of rocky surfaces (granitic or basaltic) could be correlated with faunistic changes on portions on the same boulders. Also, we wish to verify what form must share environment resources among the present taxa. The rocky shore was divided into 7 sections which reflect the different combination of the three aformentioned variables. Monthly samplings were taken through July to December, 1982. A total of 51 taxa were identified. The most frequent were: Perna perna, Fissurella clenchi, Fissurella rosea, Collisella subrugosa, Brachidontes solisianus, Tegula viridula, Littorina ziczac, Thais haemoastoma, Pisania auritula and Leucozonia nassa. The area studied presents one unique mollusk assemblage as revealed by the Cluster Analysis. The environmental resource allotment seems to fit to "Broken Stick Model" of MacArthur.
