Anxiety defense variation motivation and verbal anxiety reactions to hypothetical threat situations

, : Anxiety defense variation motivation and verbal anxiety reactions to hypothetical threat situations. Psychologische Beitraege 22(1): 49-60

Starting from a critique of mechanistic interactionism this study analyzes the effects of variation motivation repression-sensitization (R-S) and threatening situations on verbal anxiety reactions. Ss (60 subjects, male and female undergraduate psychology students) chosen on the basis of their scores on R-S and variation motivation scales were divided up into 3 .times. 2 groups of 10 Ss each. The Ss reported intensities of various modes of anxiety responses for hypothetical threat situations. Main ANOVA (analysis of variance) results indicate an interaction between variation motivation, anxiety defense and modes of response.
