Cadmium and lead content in the seed of coarse grained leguminous plants

, : Cadmium and lead content in the seed of coarse grained leguminous plants. Bromatologia i Chemia Toksykologiczna 19(4): 251-254

This paper deals with the determination of cadmium and lead content in the seed of coarse-grained leguminous plants. Statistically significant differences in levels of the said metals were noted in the seed of individual sorts of plants under investigation in particular between the lupin and the horse bean, pea, and field pea, as well as within variety groups of the lupin. The highest levels of cadmium and lead amounting to 0.39 and 1.3 mg/kg of dry mass, respectively, were found in the seed of yellow lupins, and might result from greater capacity of this variety group to cumulate the metals under test. Cadmium and lead content in the seed of leguminous plants was observed to be several times higher than that in the corn seed.
