The NADPase (EC 3.2.2) activity and the mode of enzyme regulation in the course of A. streptomycini development were investigated. Using > 20 different mutant strains, the previously described interrelation between the action of bioregulator A-factor (which causes the production of streptomycin and sporulation) and NADPase activity was supported. The latter is a secreted enzyme. The A-factor induction of NADPase is inhibited by actinomycin D and chloramphenicol. The process of the induction apparently depends on protein biosynthesis.
