Changes into physicochemical properties of soil as affected by organic manures

, : Changes into physicochemical properties of soil as affected by organic manures. Balwant Vidyapeeth Journal of Agricultural and Scientific Research 16(1): 22-27

The effect of application of bulky manures (farmyard manure, compost, sanai leaves [Crotalaria juncea] and ground-nut [Arachis hypogaea] cake) on the physico-chemical properties of soil was studied. The overall effect of these organic manures was manifest in the improvement of the soil physico-chemical properties, i.e., porosity, hydraulic conductivity, water holding capacity, pH and cation exchange capacity. Of the 4 sources of organic manures, sanai leaves had the most beneficial effect in this respect, and farmyard manure and compost were almost similar in their effects. Ground-nut cake had the minimal effect. Porosity, hydraulic conductivity and cation exchange capacity were highest and bulk density, particle density and pH were lowest in soil treated with sanai leaves.
