, : Clinical and etiological observations of viral conjunctivitis in infants and young children. Folia Ophthalmologica Japonica 32(10): 2184-2191

A virological study of 44 infants and young children with viral conjunctivitis was presented. Adenovirus type 8 was detected in 9 cases, adenovirus type 3 in 3, adenovirus type 19 in 2 and adenovirus type 4 in 1; enterovirus type 70 and coxsackievirus type A9 were detected in 1 case each. Pseudomembrane formation was found in 15 cases (34%). Superficial punctate keratitis was found in 2 cases. In general, the keratoconjunctival signs were less severe in infants and young children than in adults.
