Clinical and statistical studies on congenital dilatation of the biliary tract in relation to anomalous arrangement of the pancreatico biliary ducts

, : Clinical and statistical studies on congenital dilatation of the biliary tract in relation to anomalous arrangement of the pancreatico biliary ducts. Tokushima Journal of Experimental Medicine 23(3-4): 165-173

Six cases of anomalous arrangement of the pancreatiocobiliary ducts were found in 16 cases of congenital dilatation of the biliary tract in the past 5 yr. This high incidence of the anomaly prompted an investigation of the incidence in Japan. Cases (852) of congenital dilatation of the biliary tract were collected from major medical institutions in Japan. In 852 cases of congenital dilatation of the biliary tract 570 gave satisfactory information for the detailed analysis. In 560 cases of congenital dilatation of the biliary tract, 183 cases (33%) of anomalous arrangement of the pancreaticobiliary ducts were found. Anomalous arrangement of the pancreaticobiliary ducts can be postulated as 1 of the etiological factors of the congenital dilatation of the biliary tract.
