A comparative study of 2 methods for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) was carried out in samples of surface waters. Different separation and final determination techniques of the PAH were applied. In 1 of the methods, the PAH were separated by TLC followed by fluorimetric assays whereas in the other both the separation and assays were accomplished by high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection at 254 nm.
