Discovery of microhyla ornata from the punjab pakistan

, : Discovery of microhyla ornata from the punjab pakistan. Biologia (Lahore) 20(2): 179-180

Some tadpoles from Rabwah which were distinctly different from those of the common species of Anura found in this area were collected and reared in the laboratory. The emerging froglets were identified and described as Oxyglossus (= Ooeiodozyga) lima (Khan, 1968). Mertens (1970 and personal communication) expressed doubts about this identification. Tadpoles and 2 froglets sent to him were identified as Microhyla ornata (Dumeril and Bibron). The characteristic rasping calls were heard at widely separated places in the Punjab and it is reasonably certain that the species is widely distributed in the Punjab. This distribution of the species is discussed.
