Ecology of nematus melanaspis hymenoptera tenthredinidae in the western polesye of the ukrainian ssr ussr

, : Ecology of nematus melanaspis hymenoptera tenthredinidae in the western polesye of the ukrainian ssr ussr. Vestnik Zoologii (3): 79-81

The ecology of the sawfly N. melanaspis Hartig was studied in a focus of mass proliferation in the Volyn Oblast. In this region, 2 generations developed annually, but 3 generations could develop in years with an early spring and a hot summer. Optimum food for larvae were young leaves of willows and poplars. The 3rd generation, having to feed on tougher old leaves, sometimes perished. Descriptions of times of metamorphosis, diapause and emergence of imago are given. Sex ratio in different years, generations and summer periods are also discussed. In the western Polesye the greatest damage to natural tree stands and parks was inflicted by the 1st generation.
