Effect of amphotericin b and paromomycin on lipid peroxidation and enzymes in experimental acanthamoebic meningoencephalitis

, : Effect of amphotericin b and paromomycin on lipid peroxidation and enzymes in experimental acanthamoebic meningoencephalitis. Indian Journal of Medical Research 84(AUG): 187-190

Intranasal infection of mice with a virulent strain of Acanthamoeba culbertsoni resulted in an elevation of lipid peroxide formation and the activities of acid phosphatase, protease, deoxyribonuclease and phospholipase A. Treatment of the diseased host with amphotericin B significantly lowered the elevated levels of lipid peroxides and phospholipase A but could not bring them to the normal level. Treatment with paromomycin had no effect on these biochemical parameters. The combination of the two drugs showed no significant advantage over the use of amphotericin B alone.
