Effect of low intensity laser light on nonstationary metabolic processes in escherichia coli cells

, : Effect of low intensity laser light on nonstationary metabolic processes in escherichia coli cells. Doklady Akademii Nauk SSSR 295(4): 1002-1005

Experiments were carried out to study the effect of low intensity light (wave length 632.8 nm) on the growth of E. coli in the presence of the auxin .alpha.-naphthylacetic acid [.alpha.-NAA] or potassium iodide. Correlation curves were presented that demonstrated the correlations between the growth of E. coli cultures and .alpha.-NAA and KI concentrations. Apparently, when activated by low intensity light or KI, the bacterial respiratory chain becomes able to create the pH gradient faster, enabling the cell to start dividing earlier.
