Effect of some pharmaceuticals used during the treatment of burns on the liver metabolism in burnt rats

, : Effect of some pharmaceuticals used during the treatment of burns on the liver metabolism in burnt rats. Acta Universitatis Carolinae. Medica 27(1-2): 133-138

The effect of dibutyl sulfide on the liver metabolism in the intact and burnt rats was studied by open perfusion of an isolated organ. The addition of dibutyl sulfide in vitro to the perfusion liquid flowing through the liver of burnt (in vivo) animals led to a remarkable increase in the enzyme activity of alanine aminotransferase (ALT. EC 2.6.1.2) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST, EC 2.6.1.1) in the perfusion medium. Simultaneously, there was a decrease of the urea production in the liver. Similar studies were performed with some drugs commonly applied when treating burns: protacine, faustan, dipidolor and reparil. The drugs were added into the perfusion medium in doses corresponding to commonly applied amounts related per kilogram body weight. The fenothiazine derivative, protacine, exerted the most remarkable effect.
