Effectiveness of certain organic insecticides against thrips tabaci under field conditions thysanoptera thripidae

, : Effectiveness of certain organic insecticides against thrips tabaci under field conditions thysanoptera thripidae. Bulletin of the Entomological Society of Egypt Economic Series (9): 211-216

Organic insecticides (11) were tested against the cotton thrips T. tabaci, on cotton seedlings in a field experiment carried out during the 1972 season. All toxicants used at the test dilutions gave nearly complete initial kill. Tamaron, Nuvacron, FD 5228, endrin/Bidrin and Rogor gave > 80% kill 16 days from application. On the basis of average percentage mortality, the tested materials were decreasingly arranged as follows: Tamaron, Nuvacron, Azodrin, Rogor, endrin/Bidrin, FD 5228, Kelthane, Gusathion, Dimecron, Zolone and Kelthane S. In spite of the high initial effect of Rogor and endrin/Bidrin, their effect dropped 12 days after treatment. Tamaron and Nuvacron, which were initially less toxic, showed a high residual effect up to 16 days. Dimecron, Zolone and Kelthane S were the least effective materials.
