Effects of bacillus thuringiensis in an outbreak of the larch leaf roller zeiraphera diniana lepidoptera tortricidae

, : Effects of bacillus thuringiensis in an outbreak of the larch leaf roller zeiraphera diniana lepidoptera tortricidae. Entomophaga 22(1): 37-44

In 1971, at Montgenevre (Hautes-Alpes, France), a suspension of spores and crystals of B. thuringiensis, Berliner Serotype 1, was applied to control a population of Z. diniana Gn. in outbreak. The application was made on the 3rd instar, before the insect had caused any damage, and showed 80-83% immediate efficiency. The large scale reduction of the larval population resulted in keeping the Z. diniana population below the economic injury level during the dynamic period of gradation. There was practically no damage in the treated forest during this time. No harmful effect due to the bacterial intervention was observed.
