Effects of bacillus thuringiensis on parasites and predators of yponomeuta evonymellus lepidoptera yponomeutidae

, : Effects of bacillus thuringiensis on parasites and predators of yponomeuta evonymellus lepidoptera yponomeutidae. Zeitschrift fuer Angewandte Entomologie 87(3): 294-311

The effect of B. thuringiensis var. kurstaki on 7 spp. of parasites and 1 sp. of predatory bugs of Y. evonymellus was studied. Two tachinids, Bessa fugax (Rond.) and Zenillia dolosa (Meig.), as well as one ichneumonid, Trichionotus sp. were not sensitive to the Bacillus (108-5 .cntdot. 108 Sp[spores]/ml). Sensitiveness occurred in the hymenopterans Diadegma armillata (Grav.), Pimpla turionellae (Bouche), Ageniaspis fuscicollis Dalm. and Tetrastichus evonymellae (Bouche'), if they took up the spores of the Bacillus with food sap. Inside the body of dead parasites vegetative cells of B. thuringiensis were observed microscopically. The males of D. armillata were more sensitive to the Bacillus than females. The number of parasites emerging from Yponomeuta larvae and pupae when larvae fed on Prunus leaves contaminated with B. thuringiensis was smaller than those which fed on non-infected leaves. B. thuringiensis showed no effect on the predatory bug, Picromerus bidens L.
