Effects of ketamine on audiogenic chemical and cobalt induced seizures and carbonic anhydrase activity in animals

, : Effects of ketamine on audiogenic chemical and cobalt induced seizures and carbonic anhydrase activity in animals. National Science Council Monthly 7(6): 579-590

Anticonvulsive or seizure inductive effects of ketamine were studied in different experimental epilepsy models. Ketamine in subanesthetic dose protected the animal against audiogenic seizures and maximal electroshock seizures in mice. Ketamine, at subanesthetic dose, has no anticonvulsive effects in chemically (pentylenetetrazole or strychnine) induced seizures in mice. Ketamine enhanced the abnormal electrocorticogram (ECoG) induced by Co implantation in the right frontal cortex of rats; but it inhibited the spread of epileptogenic activity when the abnormal ECoG was severe. Ketamine was not a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor.
