Effects of parathormone and calcitonin on the cardio vascular apparatus

, : Effects of parathormone and calcitonin on the cardio vascular apparatus. Clujul Medical 53(3): 193-197

Parathormone (PTH) exerts obvious effects on the cardiovascular apparatus. These are greatly superimposed over the changes of calcemia determined by this hormone. Accurate experimental data to explain its actions are lacking. Calcitonin (CT) possesses an obvious antiarrhythmic activity in cases of arrhythmia through Ca (experimental, but possibly clinical, too, as hypercalcemia is frequent enough in human pathology) and in cases in which Ca seems to be involved (digital arrhythmia). CT can be used as an arrhythmic agent in the human clinic. CT possesses reduced effects upon the myocardial contractility and blood vessels. The mechanism of action of CT is not elucidated but experimental and clinical evidence of the antiarrhythmic effect of this hormone is presented.
