Epidermal structure and stomatal ontogeny in some gymnosperms from nigeria

, : Epidermal structure and stomatal ontogeny in some gymnosperms from nigeria. Feddes Repertorium 95(5-6): 351-354

The morpho-ontogeny of 6 gymnospermic taxa were studied. All except Encephalartos barteri are aliens. In a topographical classification stomata are identified as anomocytic and cyclocytic. The ontogeny of stomata in Pinus resinosa and P. strobus is typically syndetocheilic while it is haplocheilic in Araucaria bidwillii, A. excelsa, E. barteri and Thuja orientalis. Anomocytic stomatal type is recorded in A. bidwillii, A. excelsa, P. resinosa and P. strobus whereas anomycytic/cyclocytic types of stomata are observed in E. barteri and T. orientalis.
