Etiologic role of enterotoxigenic escherichia coli and rotavirus in acute diarrhea in delhi india children

, : Etiologic role of enterotoxigenic escherichia coli and rotavirus in acute diarrhea in delhi india children. Indian Journal of Medical Research 85(JUNE): 604-607

The etiology of acute diarrhoea was studied between March 1985 and February 1986 in 204 children aged up to 5 yr and 98 healthy asymptomatic children with similar age distribution served as the control group. The agents isolated most frequently in patients were enterotoxigenic E. coli (23.0%), rotavirus (20.6%), Campylobacter jejuni (10.2%), and enteropathogenic E. coli (7.8%), C. jejuni was isolated as frequently in controls (8.1%). The detection rates for rotavirus were highest in the 0-6 months age group (40.0%) and declined beyond 2 yr of age (12.3%). Peak incidence of ETEC diarrhoea was observed during the second (26.1%) and third years (29.1%) of life.
