Fear word choice in preschoolers

, : Fear word choice in preschoolers. Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry 9(2): 189-190

Fear-word preferences in 4 and 5 yr old children were examined. Preschoolers (40) were presented with a forced word choice game-task consisting of pairs of synonyms describing fear. Synonyms used were afraid, nervous, tense, scared and worried. Sex and age related variations in preference were significant. When examining a preschooler for the presence of anxiety, the clinician should first evaluate the word preference of the child client.
