Lactate and succinate dehydrogenase in the cardiac and breast muscles of avians a comparison in flying and non flying birds

, : Lactate and succinate dehydrogenase in the cardiac and breast muscles of avians a comparison in flying and non flying birds. Cellular & Molecular Biology (Oxford) 33(1): 111-116

Activities of lactate and succinate dehydrogenase (LD and SD) in the cardiac and breast muscles of different avian species representing flying and non-flying birds have been compared. The activity of LD, under two parameters (units/g wet wt. and units/mg protein) has been found to be higher in both the muscles of duck followed by fowl and pigeon. The activity and specific activity of SD in both the muscles have been found to be higher in pigeon as compared to either duck or fowl. The significance of these enzymatic activities have been correlated basing upon the flight adaptations of the three avian species studied.
