The nonionic detergent Triton X-100 has been reported to release bound lactate dehydrogenase [LDH, EC 1.1.1.27]. LDH was used to follow developmental changes in protein composition resulting from changing patterns of gene expression. One-cell rabbit embryos were collected, homogenized and LDH extracted with Triton X-100. LDH-5 and LDH-4 were the only isozymes present. The detergent did not release bound LDH.
