Lactate dehydrogenase ec iso enzymes in different types of muscle fibers in the atlantic hagfish myxine glutinosa

, : Lactate dehydrogenase ec iso enzymes in different types of muscle fibers in the atlantic hagfish myxine glutinosa. Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology B 55(3): 381-385

Red parietal and red craniovelar muscle fibers in the Atlantic hagfish (M. glutinosa) possess strong LDH [lactate dehydrogenase, EC] activity (slide histochemistry); intermediate and especially white parietal fibers show weaker activity. The activity is inhibited by urea but not by pyruvate. Only 2 LDH isoenzymes are found in hagfish tissues by disc electrophoresis. The cathodal isoenzyme is present in white, intermediate and red parietal muscle fibers; an anodal isoenzyme is present in red fibers of the craniovelar muscles and in heart muscle. Subunit interaction is too weak both in vivo and in vitro for heteropolymers to form.
