Lactate dehydrogenase ec isozyme in bovine serum

, : Lactate dehydrogenase ec isozyme in bovine serum. Japanese Journal of Electrophoresis 24(4): 313-318

Using simple thin layer-PAGE (polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH, EC isozymes were determined in bovine serum during fetal development and pregnancy. Isozymes were also determined in serum from cows with downer cow syndrome. All 5 forms of LDH isozymes were observed in bovine fetal serum. The total LDH activity and the fast-moving isozyme LDH1 were increased in bovine fetal serum during development. In the serum from pregnant cows, LDH1, LDH2 and LDH3 were detected, while LDH4 and LDH5 were not detected. LDH1 was predominant. There were no changes of the LDH isozyme pattern in bovine serum during pregnancy. The slow-moving isozyme LDH5 and total LDH activities were increased in serum from cows with downer cow syndrome.
