Lactate dehydrogenase isozymes effect of isoproterenol induced myo cardial ischemia

, : Lactate dehydrogenase isozymes effect of isoproterenol induced myo cardial ischemia. Indian Journal of Experimental Biology 18(12): 1443-1445

Isozyme patterns of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured in myocardial extracts from adult albino rats with isoproterenol (ISO) induced (85 mg/kg, s.c. .times. 2 days) myocardial ischemia (MI). ISO-treated rat hearts showed a characteristic isozyme shifts with an increased proportion of electrophoretically slow migrating components (M-type) in spite of the decrease of total LDH activity in myocardium. Myocardial tissue lactate concentration and the activity of M-type of LDH were raised significantly (P < 0.001). A predominant H-pattern of myocardial LDH isozyme apparently is shifted to M-type in response to MI, a useful adaptive mechanism particularly with lactate metabolism in cardiac muscle.
