Lactate formation in the brain of the chick embryo during development

, : Lactate formation in the brain of the chick embryo during development. Bollettino Societa Italiana Biologia Sperimentale 51(20): (1976) 1470-1471

In the chick embryo brain glycogen synthesis predominates over glycogenolysis, and the formation of lactate by glycolysis proceeds more from glucose than from glycogen. In the developing chick brain, glycogen synthetase increases gradually and reaches a peak by the 14th day; phosphorylase remains modest until the 18th day, then gradually increases until emergence. Glycogen accumulates steadily during embryonic life until emergence. These data were checked by measuring, in the brain of the embryonic chicken, during the entire period of development, the velocity of glycolytic flow for glucose and glycogen.
