Gladiolus pollen from the species Gladiolus alatus, G. debilis, G. guenzii, G. orchidiflorus, G. rodgersii, G. tristis and G. undulatus can be frozen at -40.degree. C, thawed, and still retain viability. Predried pollen was able to withstand repeated freezing and thawing better than pollen that was freshly frozen. Viability, as measured by seed production, started to decrease several days after thawing.
