Mepartricin in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia

, : Mepartricin in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Minerva Urologica E Nefrologica 40(2): 101-104

Fourteen patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were treated with mepartricin (50,000 U 8-hourly) for 61 days on average. In most patients treatment brought about a significant improvement in the subjective symptomatology (day and night pollakiuria, dysuria, strangury, force and caliber of stream). As regards the objective parameters controlled (rectal exploration, ultrasonography of the prostate, residual urine) residual urine was found much decreased in 4 subjects. Tolerance of the drug was excellent: no particular side-effects were seen (only 1 case of pyrosis) and no change was observed in the values of the laboratory examinations carried out.
