Metacarpal index in normal adult Indian population

, : Metacarpal index in normal adult Indian population. Indian Journal of Medical Research 87: 293-297

The metacarpal index (MI) was measured in 189 normal Indians (88 females and 101 males) aged above 18 yr with no evidence of arachnodactyly. The MI of the left hand was found to be slightly more than that of the right hand in both the sexes, the difference being greater in males than in females. However, none of the differences were significant. The MI values of both the hands in females were higher than those of males in all age groups. The values of MI in the Indian population studied here were higher than those reported in other countries.
