Miogypsinidae from the cuanza basin angola

, : Miogypsinidae from the cuanza basin angola. Proceedings of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen Series B Physical Sciences 80(4): 242-255

A biometric study on 4 assemblages of the Miogypsinidae from the 1774-1790 m interval of well Sangano 1 (OSG1), offshore Angola. All 4 assemblages may be referred to Miogypsina ex. interc. complanata-M. formosensis. Some remarkable features are: the very low mean values of the number of operculinid chambers (Y), the tendency in a few forms to grow equatorial chambers in the direction of the apex, and the fairly large mean protoconch diameters as compared to those known from other areas along the west coast of Africa. These early Miogypsinoides from Angola may represent a local side branch of the main Miogypsinoides lineage in this part of the world. Planktonic foraminiferal faunas occurring above the Miogypsinoides bearing beds in well OSG1 are of Burdigalian Age. Benthonics occurring below may point to a Late Oligocene age. The M. ex. interc. complanata- M. formosensis assemblages thus may be of the same age as those from the classical localities in Western Europe.
