One hundred and forty diabetic patients, 103 females (73.5%) and 37 males (26.5%) were studied. Presence of non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type 2) was detected in 75.7% of them and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type 1) occurred in 17.1%. Altered glucose tolerance (AGT) was found in 7.2% of the patients studied. Highest relation to presence of diabetic macroangiopathy and microangiopathy was found subordinated to the control of glycemia figures. Such complications were detected in 50% of the patients with no satisfactory disease control. Lower relation was found when other variables such as evolution time, arterial hypertension, obesity, hyperlipoproteinemia and smoking habit, were valued.
