Phenometric investigations to determine the action of nitrogenous industrial waste waters from urea production on perennial rye grass lolium perenne

, : Phenometric investigations to determine the action of nitrogenous industrial waste waters from urea production on perennial rye grass lolium perenne. Wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift Martin-Luther-Universitaet Halle-Wittenberg Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Reihe 30(1): 13-20

Waste water from urea-producing factories was used for sprinkling irrigation in plant production. Soil moisture was held within the range of 50-70%. According to concentrations of the N components of the waste water, the experiment included 5 waste water variants and 1 clear water variant as a control. Dilution of highly concentrated average waste water with clear water resulted in usable ammonium salt concentrations and total N. Perennial ryegrass (L. perenne), variety maprima, was used as the test plant. The substrate used was a clay and sand soil. Altogether 4 crops were harvested. The phenometric studies included height of plant growth, length of leaves and width of leaves. Speed of plant growth and yield were tested. The correlations between growth rate and leaf area were calculated. The phenometric studies showed a negative action of the processing water on sand and clay bottoms, but the waste water averages, on both soils, showed positive supplementary N action.
