Plum eye a marker for the 3rd linkage group in culex pipiens diptera culicidae

, : Plum eye a marker for the 3rd linkage group in culex pipiens diptera culicidae. Journal of Medical Entomology 16(3): 219-222

Plum-eye (pl), a fully penetrant, autosomal recessive, spontaneous mutant in C. pipiens, is described. It is inherited independently of y and is thought to be in linkage group 3. A strain homozygous for pl and y was synthesized that has a marker for each of the 3 linkage groups (maleness is used as a marker for the 1st linkage group). Applicability to biological control of this vector is discussed.
