Possible factors in tardy decomposition of scirpus tuberosus leaves by fungi

, : Possible factors in tardy decomposition of scirpus tuberosus leaves by fungi. Acta Botanica Indica 9(2): 213-217

Studies on dry weight losses and chemical components of leaves supported an earlier observation that decomposition of Scirpus leaves is a slow process. Unlike most of the herbaceous plants. leaves contained higher lignin and tannin and relatively poor N contents. These chemical constituents, abundance of sclerenchyma in leaves and unfavorable physical environment due to rains might be responsible for tardy decomposition of leaves by fungi.
