Remarks on the eco geographic variation patterns of polygonum aviculare particularly of polygonum arenastrum

, : Remarks on the eco geographic variation patterns of polygonum aviculare particularly of polygonum arenastrum. Verhandlungen des Botanischen Vereins der Provinz Brandenburg 113: 13-22

Some ecogeographic variation patterns within the anthropophilous P. aviculare complex were uncovered by analyzing the informations given in European "Floras" and taxonomic works. The P. aviculare complex itself was divided in 2 species-aggregates (P. aviculare agg. and P. arenastrum agg.), which division agrees with the broadly accepted status of the microspecies involved. P. arenastrum agg. comprises the microspecies P. aequale Lindm., P. calcatum Lindm. and P. microspermum Bor. The latter, predominant in France in plant communities on footpaths, but also occurring in the western part of the Federal Republic of Germany, is the vicariant of the more easterly distributed P. calcatum; both represent different but intergrading population assemblies. Emphasis is given to a proposal that the name P. aviculare L. be set aside as nomen specificum rejicendum.
