Resolution of chloroplast lamellar proteins by sodium tetra decyl sulfate gel electrophoresis

, : Resolution of chloroplast lamellar proteins by sodium tetra decyl sulfate gel electrophoresis. Bulletin de l'Academie Polonaise des Sciences Serie des Sciences Biologiques 24(11): 641-645

The effect of sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS) on solubility and electrophoretic resolution of spinach [Spinacia oleracea] thylakoid membrane proteins was studied. STS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis yielded 10 polypeptide fractions whose MW ranged from 21-150 kilodaltons. The polypeptides of 21-60 kilodalton range are similar to those released by SDS treatment. These are probably cytochromes f and b6, CF1 [chloroplast coupling factor 1] and some polypeptides which are components of the pigment-protein complexes of PS I and PS II[photosystems].
