Response of pearl millet hybrids to levels of nitrogen under rainfed conditions of haryana india

, : Response of pearl millet hybrids to levels of nitrogen under rainfed conditions of haryana india. International Journal of Tropical Agriculture 3(3): 196-201

An experiment, with 3 pearl millet hybrids (BJ-104, HHB-45 and HHB-46) and 5 levels of nitrogen (0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 kg N/ha), was conducted during kharif seasons of 1982 to 1984 at the Dryland Research Farm of Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana. The results indicated that the hybrid HHB-45 outyielded the other two hybrids (BJ-104 and HHB-46) in all the three seasons. The optimum dose determined through response equation was the lowest in respect of HHB-45 and the highest in respect of BJ-104. There was variation in optimum dose on account of high variation in rainfall distribution during different seasons. The interaction between hybrids and nitrogen levels was also significant during 1982 and 1983. The application of 80 kg N/ha increased the water use efficiency by 1 1/2 to 2 times over control in all the three hybrids.
