Revision of knee replacements a prospective investigation of 33 cases followed for 1 to 7 years

, : Revision of knee replacements a prospective investigation of 33 cases followed for 1 to 7 years. Ugeskrift for Laeger 149(37): 2464-2466

Between 1979 and 1985, thirty-three knee replacements were revised in 29 patients. Two knees were revised twice and in two patients both knees were revised. The most frequent reason for revision was a painful knee with radiological signs of loose components. Twenty-eight of the revisions were carried out with the semiconstrained Install-Burstein total condylar prosthesis. Thirty cases were followed for one to seven years. No pain or mild pain was present in 74% during walking and at rest in 89%. The overall results were excellent or good in 57%. Three complications were serious, two of these were deep knee infections. The results after revision knee arthroplasty were found inferior to the results after primary knee replacement.
