Saturated mono unsaturated and poly unsaturated fatty acids in liporegulation

, : Saturated mono unsaturated and poly unsaturated fatty acids in liporegulation. Bollettino Societa Italiana Biologia Sperimentale 62(10): 1253-1260

Rats, fed with soybean or linseed oils (18% of total energy) or subtotally hepatectomized or injected with alloxan (twice mg 150/Kg, in the muscle) show a decrease of mono-unsaturated fatty acids in the liver, in the striated muscle and in the adipose tissue and a moderate increase of the poly-unsaturated fatty acids. Also, the treatment with CoCl2 (four injections in the muscle every other day of mg 50/Kg) diminishes the mono-unsaturated fatty acids, but increases the saturated and arachidonic acids. The treatment with CCl4 (one subcutaneous injection of mg 500/Kg every third day in a month) decreases the poly-unsaturated fatty acids and increases the mono-saturated acids (the medium chain and eicosatrienoic acids as their turnover compounds). The mono-unsaturated fatty acids in the studied tissues "balance" the correlations among the "families" of saturated and poly-unsaturated fatty acids.
