Seasonal variations in serum immuno globulin levels of children with bronchial asthma with primary reference to changes in serum immuno globulin e concentration

, : Seasonal variations in serum immuno globulin levels of children with bronchial asthma with primary reference to changes in serum immuno globulin e concentration. Bulletin of the Institute of Constitutional Medicine Kumamoto University 30(3): 263-270

Seasonal changes in the serum concentration of IgE and other Ig were investigated in 34 children with bronchial asthma having received no hyposensitization therapy. Serum IgE, specific IgE antibody to house dust and specific IgE antibody to mite, Dermatophagoides farinae displayed essentially the same patterns of seasonal variation in concentration during the year, characterized by a minor elevation from April-June and a major, prominent elevation from Aug.-Jan., with a peak in Oct.-Dec., separated by 2 distinct depressions in March and July. Practically comparable patterns of sequential changes were observed with serum IgG, IgA and IgM levels. The patterns consisted of 2 heaps, 1 from March-June and the other from Aug.-Jan. being slightly higher than the former, separated by profound depressions in Feb. and July, and with minor depressions in May and Nov. Serum IgD showed a unique pattern of seasonal changes with a prominent peak in March-April and devoid of elevation from Aug. on, unlike the other Ig classes. A reciprocal relationship was noted between the seasonal variations of serum IgE and IgD levels during the year. Seasonal variations in serum Ig levels mentioned above may be present. The study may help to explain the mechanism for the production of Ig.
