Semi quantitative determination of the impurities in high quality ethyl alcohol by means of high resolution gas chromatography

, : Semi quantitative determination of the impurities in high quality ethyl alcohol by means of high resolution gas chromatography. Zeitschrift fuer Lebensmittel-Untersuchung und -Forschung 179(1): 9-11

A rapid method for the analysis of high quality ethyl alcohol is described involving the extraction of the sample with n-pentane, followed by injection of the organic phase onto a cross-linked SE 54 fused silica capillary column. The use of the on column technique makes it possible to eliminate the problems associated with the preparation of the sample and the evaluation of the gas-chromatographic results. The practical aspects of the work are emphasized with particular importance given to finding some parameters that could be useful in the selection of higher grade alcohols.
