Soft tissue image latitude of radiographic imaging systems

, : Soft tissue image latitude of radiographic imaging systems. Medical Physics (Woodbury) 9(4): 563-565

A mathematical formulation for the calculation of image latitude in radiographic imaging systems is proposed. It involves the determination of a quantity called the soft tissue image latitude (STIL). The STIL is equal to (5.82/.gamma.)(HVT)ST where .gamma. is the slope of the characteristic curve for the film used and (HVT)ST is the half-value thickness of the incident primary beam in soft tissue. Calculated values of STIL are presented for typical radiographic systems.
