The uniqueness of the flora of high altitudes is accounted for by the extremely rigorous conditions of its habitat. It represents a special floral-coenotic complex. This complex, based on the autochthonous Caucasian floristic element, also comprises groups of arctic-alpine and Western Asian species. The floral-coenotic complex has evolved as a special form of existence of plant life under the conditions of high altitudes.
